I was thinking about getting some manual CM hoists for use in rigging line arrays to mobile stages. By the time I add in the chain limit of a conventional motor and a short stinger to keep the chain bag above the array frame, I'm loosing about 3 feet. Does anyone have any tips or things I should consider before I make the investment?

And dont forget that the chain will likely rub against what you are trying to lift. Bring burlap!

It will be the best purchase you have made in a long time.  We have loads of 1 ton manual hoists that we use all the time.  It really great to be able to rig and fly stuff without needing power.  We don't even have the nice CM ones, we bought some cheaper ones that were right around $120 a pop.  Had them for three years, they get used all the time and in horrible weather conditions and never had an issue.  Shoot, on an SL100, you can just clip the hoist hook right into the Sound Wing rig point without even using a shackle, amazing.
