SO if you absolutely had to choose one last 1ru sized piece of gear, what would it be? The one item that you absolutely love to use and have a hard time leaving for a gig without. What is it and why is it your favorite? What makes it so special? Tell me!!

wow... 1 space...

toss upi between the Peavey Kosmos (1st generation) to help out lacking low end capability in a rig ... doesn't matter how the bottom is, the PK will help if used as an aux send ......

or

Brooke SirenDPR 901 II.  Great for a myriad of band specific compression or expansion.. Use it to "fix" a vocal, "manage" group vocals or as a broad band expander to shut down the mic that has nobody in front of it...

I agree that the 901 is an excellent tool.  I consider the Kosmos to be a good door stop.

The TC Triple C is very handy.

It would have to be a HS2RL from Production Intercom. It combines a beltpack station WITH a strobe. Now there's an easy and convenient way to alert the FOH guy to pick up his d... headset.
xta makes a piece called a "SIDD" or seriously intelligent digital dynamics. Its a 2 channel device with a gate, comp, dynamic eq and a hard limiter as well as 8 points of parametric eq. it is a fantastic piece of gear and can be used in variety of applications. I like it on high strings and brass instruments.
To be truthful I would never want to have to do a gig without a power conditioner.
