It's funny most of the people that trash talk gear and companies, for stuff that is' quote 'not rider friendly, i think for the most part don't even own the gear or run a sound co, they fail to realize the cost and hard work that goes into a endever as running your own business. Maybe if they would put up or just shut up and make the gear they have work and sound good, there life would be a whole lot simpler. any comments on this. from the peanut gallery

in NY if they lie and say they are insured, it becomes your problem , the only, I repeat ONLY way to protect yourself , in NY, is to collect the insurance certs, liability AND WC, before they can be given the work, otherwise they get payed through my payroll service("paychex", no cash at the end of the gig, all deductions and reporting covered) who will list them under my WC policy
this world just turns too ugly too fast when you do not have the legal requirements covered
it won't be long before there is so much red tape and fee's you have to pay and big brother oversight, you will just be better off to work for the gov, so much for the small business guy in this country. were a dying breed, I should have been a plummer there's enough shit to go around.
and lots of promoters don't understand why I cost 50% more than JOE's Big Sound Company, nor do they care. I have resolved myself to working for a better class of promoters , and if I can't make a go of it, like I said, I can be broke and sued to death with a lot less work than trying to run a sound company.
question,- What did the sound guy do when he won 10 million dollars in the lottery?
Answer- he kept doing sound until the money ran out
question,- How does one make a small fortune owning a sound company
answer-start with a large fortune
so true brother so true. good advice, people think were crazy i bet. for all the crap we have to go through to earn a buck. kind like owning a speed boat , one big black hole in the lake.
promotors, i didn't think there were any above the scumm level, boy your lucky to find them
Now that Midas IS Behringer the gear snobs will have to think again.
I think this really will turn the gear snobbery thing on its head.
I look forward to the first Behringer desk labelled 'Midas technology Inside'.
LOL :-)
If so.... and you're probably right... is that such a bad thing? Isn't that exactly what brought about the "low price revolution" in the first place? I'm no fan of the budget M/I entry level product - make no mistake - but no one can deny that those products brought an entirely new level of features and performance to a customer base that clearly needed it.... What would they be using if Mackie had not come along.... ???? I wrote the following in another area of PAS....

I get a big kick when seeing “no religion or politics” in the posting instructions on these sites – that in itself is almost an oxymoron – this business is 99% religion and politics before you even get out of the gate - in its own way, of course. You can’t ask question one without having the floodgates open hearing this widget is the only things to have, when in the very next post, it sucks and they would throw it away if somebody gave them one. Personally, I call this the “anchovy/olive theory”. Most people like olives on their pizza – I don’t. I like anchovies – most people don’t. Who’s “right”? Obviously, it’s subjective – there is no right or wrong. But start talking about sound gear and if you don’t want to get blown away by opinions, chain yourself to a tree!

I’d love to one day do a double blind listening test with a lot of the over opinionated among us and there is absolutely no doubt that the results would be surprising to say the least. There was a recent article is a recording magazine about a panel of “professionals” listening to amp modeling software – their goal was to choose between the real thing (amp/speaker/mic) and the model from a computer. Bottom line, they were wrong about 75% of the time…. My definition of an “expert” is, "Someone that can’t agree with anyone else."

No - unfortunately the 'snobs' will remain - it's part of the 'religion' that I speak of......
well said, its only a matter of time tell the dig boards that cost 10's of thousands of $$$ will come down to a couple of grand or less just like personal computers and dvd players, people will say there no good ,because they don't cost big buck's. I mean if you can mix off a lap top and still get the desired sound have at it. so i say great that midas got bought out, if they keep the workmanship and quality then its a plus for us. and the price goes down. it may get to a point were people can just stay at home and watch a live concert in 3d, virture reality, hell maybe we can have robots do all the work for us and we just control them from our couch, my back will like that.
