Far East, far out...

In an all too familiar haze of weird timing, I am off to Japan for 10 days. Flying out during the Superbowl, where the Saints are doing battle, and then returning into the ashes of New Orleans, on ash wednesday, where even the airport is likely to be strewn with beads and battered empty beer cans. Me, I am missing it all... Off to Japan with Maceo, doing a show in Nagoya, and then a bunch of nights at the Blue Note, Toyko. I will be losing it in translation, I am sure...

The former Empire strikes back. Midas / Jaguar

The former Empire strikes back. A curious tale in the further falling of the British empire...

The first cast member - A British car company, that rose from humble beginnings, and produced vehicles that became sought after, and highly regarded pieces of work, both in England, and internationally.

The second cast member - a sonic mirror to the first - A British audio console manufacturer, whose products similarly rose to become sought after and highly regarded pieces of… Continue

Hi Goat.
Sorry to se we missed each other in San Fran.... But impressed that someone had actually put up posters for the show! That never really seems to happen......
Hopefully our paths will cross in the near future.
Ian.

Wanted to say thanks for showing the correspondence between yourself and the dude in England. I feel you allowed many to see how opinions vary, how so many things come into play, and just why a touring engineer is specific with his rider requests. The analog digital debate will never go away, I understand both sides, but am firmly an analog devotee. Might be my age, my comfort zone, whatever. It is a shame that as an engineer we are the link to the band for the audience but are the ones always being asked to sacrifice to save a dollar, been like that since I started in this business and will be like that long after I am gone. Be safe out there, still don't understand how anybody could not know who Maceo Parker is much less admit it, but....

Hi Goat, Phil at Audix forwarded me your emails with the PA guy in Luton. Classic stuff!
I do have to admit at this point that of the 3 consoles I currently own only 1 is analogue. However, as an analogue devotee like yourself I recommend you try Midas digital. It really does sound like a proper console should.... Talk to Jay Easley about trying one. I'm also looking forward to the next Midas (I've already ordered it!), so I can sell my M7!
I'll keep an eye out for Maceo Parker, and likewise if you see any Porcupine Tree posters just come along. There will space on the guestlist for you. We're in the US during August btw.
Ian.
p.s. As for the R8, I just had to have it..... :-)

Hey Goat !
Thanks so much for "blathering on " about that show ! lol I feel the same as you lately ! I hope you are doing extremely well ! I'm actually home at the moment and kinda looking for a gig and kinda pushing the band I'm in into trying to land a steady gigging thing be it touring or a Casino rotation .
Dave and I had a dispute over hotels and PD's .... he didn't want to pay either anymore so I was told to find another gig .... he is currently touring without a sound guy ..
Safe travels where ever you may be !!

Take Care !

Peace
