My rule of thumb, if there is no load rate or you can no longer make out the load rate it gets retired. And in va if it stays up for more than x time period (which is only a few day limit) all rigging hardware gets moused down with wire or ties as…

I am aware that there are Quick Links with a Working Load Limit on them, but rarely do you see one with a manufacture marking on them, which is just as important. As to the pin shackles, you touch on an excellent point. Since we do a lot of single…

Quick Links can be loaded-rated (http://www.petzl.com/files/all/en/Products/PRO_comparison/comparison-table-carabiners.pdf), so don't classify them all in the same group.  Check to see what the exact product is. For more information…

I see the reluctance to use forged shoulder eyebolts all the time.

Happy New Year, check your rigging.

I was setting up a rig last week where the location had house rigging points. I was going to hang about 800 lbs. off a single point. The house technicians were in the process of connecting my chain motor to the point, which consisted of a chain dropping down through a trap door in the ceiling. The tech made a comment that he needed a bigger shackle to connect the motor hook to the "quick link". That comment set off an alarm in my head. I was thinking, what is a quick link doing with the house…See More

I understood that most Neodymium is coming from China and they started holding back imports of the material because they didn't want to "give away the house" (i.e., they want to use it for their own manufacturing purposes.

When do I get my pair of electrodes that will directly stimulate the molecules of air.Screw motors. You will never get the rise times needed to fool the ear.Too much R&D is being wasted in the development of 'motors'.If we can smash…

A recent discussion with the gurus at EV were pondering exactly that (at least the ferrite part). We were quizzing them on the next move forward for EV and they expressed concerns as related to this topic.

According to this metals prices site there was a spike for Nd in late summer but it is back down to what it was at the beginning of the year. http://www.metal-pages.com/metalprices/neodymium/

Q: "Could we really be looking at going back to 25LB, JBL 2445 boat anchors or pawning off Neodymium drivers at the gold shop?"  A: YUP Actually, Neodymium will never be like gold because, as I understand it, once the ore is machined,…

What's going on with Neodymium ?

So supposedly the price of Neodymium has gone up 500% over the past few months. As most of you know the super duper drivers of todays touring rigs generally have lightweight components with this material as the magnetic source. I had just seen a manufacture release a new line of drivers based on ferrite magnets. Could we really be looking at going back to 25LB, JBL 2445 boat anchors or pawning off Neodymium drivers at the gold shop?See More

It will be the best purchase you have made in a long time.  We have loads of 1 ton manual hoists that we use all the time.  It really great to be able to rig and fly stuff without needing power.  We don't even have the nice CM…

From my perspective, the real question is where do you want your venture to be in 4-5 years? I think you mentioned it was for your personal use along with filling the requirements of guest engineers. That gives me the impression your doing this as a…

John, you and I just communicated about hospital work, thanks for that response. I see you and Tony are buds. I've worked with Tony on about 60 shows over the years down here in Florida circuit. He can be a little picky at times, I can still hear him "sstsst that's good - leave it right there Gary" Oh, and of course Kerry and the Lefty Brothers, a little more 8K in these wedges.

As a facility engineer I run into wish list all the time and they often cost considerable dollars for odd outboard gear like Neve parametric's or API strips and so on only for them to look at you and ask how does it work! The number of shows that demand a certain desk but do not carry it with them on tour is amazing I often tell them If You Need It That Badly You Should Carry It , to assume that for a one night show I can get any desks is absurd if a rental house can send it out on a long tour or honor a one night rental they are going to go with the tour every time.
